Each summer, the National Women’s History Museum invites K–12 educators to join our For Educators, By Educators initiative—a unique professional development opportunity where educators co-create classroom resources alongside NWHM education staff that explore the impact of women on history and society. Participants work closely with Museum staff to develop high-quality lesson plans that become part of our free, online Classroom Resources collection.

Who Can Apply:

Any current K–12 educator is welcome to apply.

Proposals are reviewed for alignment with:

  •  The Museum’s mission
  •  The annual theme
  •  Diversity in topic, grade level, and teaching approach 

2025 Cohort Details:

Program Dates:

  • Begins Monday, June 16
  • Final lesson plans due Friday, August 1 

Format:

  • All work is completed virtually via email, Google Classroom, and via two online professional development workshops: 
  • Workshop 1: Wednesday, June 25
  • Workshop 2: Wednesday, July 16 

Lesson Plan Requirements:

  • Must draw from at least two biographies in the Museum’s Biographies of U.S. Women compendium (265 total)
  • Should show how these women’s lives, studied together, provide deeper insight into U.S. movements, traditions, ideologies, events, and experiences 
  • Must align with the C3 Framework for Social Studies Standards
  • Must incorporate Teaching with Primary Sources strategies using primary sources from the Library of Congress 

Honorarium:

  • Accepted participants will receive $350 per lesson plan, up to two lesson plans per educator. 

How to Submit a Proposal:

Please submit a one-paragraph proposal that includes:

  •  Your lesson topic
  •  Main learning goal or outcome
  •  Teaching technique(s)
  •  Intended grade level(s)
  •  Estimated lesson length
