The  National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) seeks a highly motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Social Media and Digital Communications Manager. This position is a member of the NWHM Communications Team and  reports to the vice president of external affairs.

The  Social Media and Digital Communications Manager will be responsible for  developing, implementing, and managing our social media strategy and  digital communications. This role requires a creative, strategic thinker  with meticulous attention to detail and at least 8-10 years of  experience in nonprofit social media management; a proven track record  of strategic social media growth; and expertise in digital content  development, analytics, and website content management systems (CMS).

This  remote position operates during Eastern Standard Time (EST) business  hours. The successful applicant must have access to a reliable internet  connection, and occasional travel to the Museum’s administrative offices  in Washington, D.C., and other locations will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Social Media Strategy, Engagement, and Analytics:  Develop and execute the Museum’s social media strategy to ensure it aligns with our mission and engages our target audience across  platforms. This includes building and managing an editorial calendar and  monitoring and responding to audience interactions, building relationships, and fostering a sense of community among followers. Use  content analytics tools to track performance metrics, analyze engagement  trends, and provide insights to refine strategies and report on impact.

Digital Content Creation:  Develop, create, and publish high-quality, consistent, and engaging  content across social media and email platforms to effectively promote  the Museum’s mission and programs. This includes conceptualizing and  executing creative campaigns that resonate with our target audiences and  drive engagement. Oversee the monthly creation, development, and  publication of the Museum’s electronic newsletters, as well as any ad-hoc email communications efforts. 

Trend Monitoring and Research:  Stay informed about social media and digital communications trends, tools, and best practices to ensure our strategies remain innovative and  impactful. Conduct research that supports institutional communications  and outreach, including programs, digital engagement, audience  development, and partnerships. Provide monthly reports on performance and prepare quarterly presentations to leadership on trends and result

Collaboration:  Collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and partners to ensure  consistent messaging and support for initiatives, programs, campaigns, events, and partnerships. Develop and lead internal discussions for  reporting to team members and partners on what is working.

Website Management: Manage website updates to ensure that content is current, engaging, and reflective of our mission, programs, and resources.

Other: General communications duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  •  Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field.
  •  At  least 8-10 years of experience in social media and digital communications in roles of increasing responsibility within a nonprofit  or similar setting, demonstrating a proven track record of strategic  growth.
  •  Strong expertise in creating mission-driven social media content and campaigns; ability to effectively engage digital audiences through storytelling and story sharing.
  •  Strong expertise and proficiency in social media management tools (e.g.,  Hootsuite), social media analytics, and performance measurement, with  the ability to translate data into actionable insights for strategy enhancement.
  •  Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with an exceptional attention to detail, brand voice consistency, and ability to adapt  writing for various audiences and stakeholders. 
  •  Experience with digital marketing tools (e.g., Constant Contact) and graphic  design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), as light graphic design will be required. Video editing experience a plus.
  •  Knowledge of current best practices in digital marketing and social media.
  •  Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  •  Ability to conduct verifiable online research.
  •  Ability to work independently and productively in a remote environment. Demonstrated self-starter that meets deadlines and consistently shows initiative and follow-through.
  •  Proficient in website content management systems (CMS), with experience in website updates and maintenance.
  •  Passion for our mission and commitment to women’s representation, equality, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
     

SALARY: $75,000-$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
