The National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) is seeking a creative, culture-savvy, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Social Media Intern to assist in developing social media programming for diverse audiences, including creating static and video content, writing social media captions, and ideating new posts. This remote, part-time, paid internship is designed for a digital native who lives and breathes social media, understands how to translate written materials into meaningful narratives, and is passionate about bringing women’s stories to life in bold, entertaining, and educational ways.
Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Team, the intern will support the Social Media and Digital Communications Manager with day-to-day tasks, as well as transform museum campaigns, resources, exhibits, events, and cultural moments into engaging, scroll-stopping posts.
This fully virtual role is open to U.S.-based applicants and operates during Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours. The successful applicant must have access to a reliable internet connection.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in developing social media programming for diverse audiences, including creating static and video content, writing social media captions, and ideating new posts
· Support the implementation of the cause campaign and other seasonal campaigns, including assisting marketing and communications team with live or asynchronous activities
· Contribute to the creation of digital resources
· Conduct research to support content creation, historical accuracy, and audience engagement strategies
· Participate in planning meetings to support continued improvement and innovation
Qualifications
· Current or recent upper-level undergraduate or graduate student in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, or a related field.
· Proven experience or strong interest in social media strategy, content development, and audience engagement.
· Strong understanding of current social media platforms (ie: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook) and trends, with an eye toward leveraging them to meet organizational goals.
· Excellent written and visual storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format to diverse platforms and audiences.
· Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
· Experience or strong interest in women’s and gender history preferred
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with virtual platforms such as Zoom, Google Drive, and Canva is a plus
· Demonstrated ability to conduct reliable and accurate online research and synthesize information
Internship Details
· Tenure: Summer 2026 (up to 12 weeks)
· Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week
· Format: Fully virtual
· Pay: Commensurate with experience
· Eligibility: This internship is open to individuals who are currently authorized to work in the United States. Please note that the National Women’s History Museum is unable to sponsor visas at this time.
· Availability: To ensure continuity and a meaningful experience, candidates should be available to serve for the duration of the 8 weeks.
· Technology Access: Interns must have access to a personal laptop with a functioning microphone and camera, as well as a reliable internet connection. Live Program Book Suggestions
Thank you for your interest in having your book be a part of the Museum’s live programs. NWHM curates programs based on a variety of factors, including the mission, NWHM's current themes and exhibitions, the needs and interests of its audiences, and current events. The Museum will often reach out directly to authors that fit the mission. NWHM encourages you to learn more about the Museum’s mission, themes, and resources on the website: womenshistory.org.
If you are interested in collaborating on a live program, please fill out the Partnership Proposal Form. A response to your request will be sent within 90 days of receipt.
Please note:
· The Museum is unable to do book buys, but can link to a preferred bookseller.
· NWHM asks that you provide a moderator/list of potential moderators for your program.
· Please include a justification of why your book fits with the current themes and mission of NWHM, as well as a reason you would like to hold your program at the time and date you’ve suggested.
All partnership proposals will be reviewed within three weeks of their submission. Due to the high volume of requests we receive, we regret that there are only a limited number of partners that we can work with at any given time. Please note: We do not currently accept unsolicited manuscripts, articles, films/videos, or educational resources. The National Women's History Museum is a nonpartisan, non-profit 501c(3) organization, and only nonpartisan partnerships will be considered.
