The National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) is seeking a Graphic Design Intern to help create exceptional, brand-aligned work across digital platforms and print media. This position is part of the Museum’s Marketing and Communications team and reports directly to the Creative Director.
This role is ideal for an upper-level (junior or senior) student, student on a graduate-level track, or recent graduate with a strong eye for design, layout, and visual communication. The person who fills this position will work on digital campaigns, presentations, social media graphics, and print materials. The work created will contribute to the Museum’s primary brand as well as supporting sub-brands, including the ongoing She Is Not a Footnote campaign.
Our ideal candidate is a creative, strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail and strong initiative. Applicants should have a strong interest in design and communication, and show a desire to learn more about women’s history and representation.

This position will work remotely for the duration of the internship; the applicant must have reliable access to Internet. Communication between the Intern and NWHM Marketing and Communications Staff will be conducted via telephone, email, Slack, and video conferencing.
Key Responsibilities
- Create branded presentations and documents for our internal teams.
- Assist with website content formatting and updates. (e.g., uploading new biographies, lesson plans, etc.)
- Support the development of motion graphics and animated assets for social and digital platforms.
- Assist in creating visual assets for digital campaigns, social media, website, and print materials.
- Edit and format images, create graphics, and develop templates and layouts that align with brand guidelines. Support general design tasks as assigned.
- Organize design files; help develop and maintain asset libraries.
- Stay aware of current design trends in order to propose fresh, creative ideas with the team that align with current brand standards and support the Creative Director’s vision for brand evolution.
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to execute on these creative concepts.
- Opportunity to present an internship project to the leadership team during the course of the internship.
Qualifications
- Current junior or senior undergraduate student in graphic design, visual arts, digital media, communications, or another related field, student on a graduate track in a related field, or a recent graduate with a degree in a related field.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); Figma, Canva, and additional Adobe program experience is welcome.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with virtual platforms such as Zoom and Google Drive is a plus.
- Experience or strong interest in motion graphics and animation (After Effects, Premiere Pro, or equivalent) is highly preferred; candidates eager to learn motion graphics will be supported.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and take initiative; candidates must be open to feedback, have experience with formal critiques, and be able to adapt quickly.
- Strong eye for design, color, typography, and layout; familiarity with both digital and print design.
- Must have a personal laptop with camera, microphone, and reliable internet access; must be available for scheduled meetings in the Eastern Time Zone.

Internship Details
- Tenure: 2025–2026 Academic Year (October 2025–May 2026).
- Commitment: Approximately 20 Hours per Week
- Format: Fully Virtual
- Stipend: $2,000 per Month for 8 Months (October–May); $16,000 Total
- Eligibility: This internship is open to individuals who are currently authorized to work in the United States. Please note that the National Women’s History Museum is unable to sponsor visas at this time.
- Availability: To ensure continuity and a meaningful experience, candidates should be available to serve for the full academic year.
